1.We don't care if you don't talk to us.
We all know that famous stereotype, where the second you sit down in your salon chair you get asked "Got any holidays booked?". Of course, it's nice when there’s a good rapport between stylist and client, for us it does make the time pass quicker, and for the client you will find the more you open up to your stylist the more trust you will have. However, sometimes we are physically and emotionally drained, and will be thankful for the silence. So, if chit chat just isn't your thing, feel free to look at your phone, ask for magazine or (if you really trust your stylist) rest your eyes.

2. Your hair will NOT look like that photo.
An inspiration photo is a great tool to accurately show your stylist what you are hoping to achieve, but I don't care who you are, what your budget is, or how good your stylist is, you're not leaving with your hair looking like the photo you've showed. The reason is simple! There are too many variables. No one’s hair is the same to begin with (thickness, colouring, pigment distribution, previous treatments, texture) so the result won't be the same. Also, hairdressers don't use the same products, the same hair colours/bleach, or tools, nor do we have the same knowledge and training. It's also impossible to tell what techniques were used to achieve that result based on the photo. I have even had cleints shows me photos of ladies in wigs! which are synthetic! We can't recreate that without a sewing machine and enzyme bath! So, by all means, show your stylist photos so they have an idea of what you like, but be realistic with your expectations.

3. Bring those snacks sis.
We are all too familiar with the hunger that comes from missing a meal or two, so if you’re missing a meal for your hair appointment, bring food with you! I often encouraged clients during a consultation to bring food if I knew their appointment would take a few hours.

4.We aren’t trying to sell you products for the commission.
Yes, we get commission on retail (most of us anyway), but not enough to justify taking the time to explain what you should be using and why. So if your stylist is doing this it's because they actually care about your hair. Your hair is their work after all. No stylist wants to spend 4 hours doing your colour for you to go home and wash their hard work out with a supermarket brand shampoo.

5. If your having your colour done, your hair needs to be CLEAN.
There isn't a single service that would require your hair to be dirty prior to it. Any oil, product or build up on your hair will act as a barrier to your colour, and either it won't take properly, or it won't lighten your hair as well. In salons diaries tend to be pretty stacked, which means we also won't have time to wash your hair before your colour, so come with it clean (the night before clean is great).
